Survey in Brixham Harbour for proposed Northern Arm

Monday 7th March.

Using 'Kellys Hero' or Brixham based survey vessel we carried out a 10metre wide grid line survey of Brixham outer harbour with Insight Marine Projects Ltd. Alex Richards (07952 667315) of Insight Marine Projects had been tasked with the survey of the silt and bed rock of the outer Harbour, these results will be used to support a bid to build the much needed Northern Arm for Brixham Harbour, not only needed for leisure craft but more so to increase the facilities of the commercial fleet.

The survey was carried out using a parametric echo sounder supplied by Innomar, model number SES-2000. Producing some very comprehensive data of the harbour floor.

Total distance covered by 'Kellys Hero' during the survey was approx 25 kilometres.(46 long lines, ~500m each = 23km plus 4 X-harbour width lines)

From 'Bristol Channel Surveys' experience on the day, we would be very happy to work along side Alex and his team again. The equipment they brought along on the day performed to all their expectations and without technical problems.

Bridgwater Bay 'No1 'Buoy work

Pictured here is 'Scooby Doo Too' during recent works to carry out buoy reinstatement for the Port of Bridgwater Harbour Master on one of the sand banks before entering the River Parret.

The RED No1 buoy is an important channel marker for the commercial shipping entering the river Parret to either visit Dunball Wharf or Combwich Wharf both of which are becoming increasingly popular with current increases in commercial shipping and interest in the possible future works at Hinkly Point power station.

Our works consisted of laying new sinker weights and heavy duty chains, all to the specification of the client.

The contract was over a number of days prior to the drying out on the sand bank preparing sinkers and chain bridles. A calm window of weather allowed us to complete on time and on budget.

Safety Boat work for 'Safeway' scaffolding

During February 'Bay Surveyor' was commissioned to carry out safety boat works for 'Carnon Contracting' a part of the 'Wheal Jayne' group.

‘Carnon Contracting’ have been tasked with the work of strengthening the concrete platform at the Brixham Fish Quay.

'Safeway Scaffolding' of Torquay were the successful bidders to carry out the installation of a work platform underneath the Fish Quay as you can see from the pictures this works involved working in the water at times and working only when the tides allowed.

'Bay Surveyor' was the most suitable vessel for this works as she was small enough to enter the waters under the Fish Quay due to her shallow draft and manoeuvrability.
